Adrian Mateos fades last-gasp sweat to win Poker Masters Purple Jacket

With Ausmus out of the way, the Purple Jacket went to 'El Conquistador'.

The Poker Masters series title adds to an already-impressive year in which he's cashed for nearly $16M in live tournaments – including a sixth bracelet win in the WSOP $250K Super High Roller for $4.3M and a career-best $6.3M score for outlasting a stacked field in the $200K Triton Invitational in Montenegro.

Brewer and Smith out before the money

Marius Gierse started Friday's final table as the chip leader. Sam Laskowitz, Ausmus, Sean Winter, and Dan Smith were all clustered tightly together in the middle of the pack.

Igor Yaroshevskyy and Chris Brewer were the short stacks, but both had room to operate with upwards of 25 big blinds.

With two eliminations necessary before anyone at the table made the money, the opening frames were a cagey affair. Smith was the first player sent packing, after he moved all-in with against an open from Brewer. Gierse found on the button and made the call. The runout saw both players connect with top pair, but Gierse's superior kicker delivered him the pot.

Chris Brewer went out on the stone bubble in the Poker Masters $50K.

Brewer went out next. After losing a big one with pocket kings against Laskowitz's pocket aces, he blinded down into the danger zone before taking a last stand with and running smack dab into Ausmus' .

The runout provided no miracle to keep Brewer alive and the money bubble burst in the wake of his elimination.

Despite starting the day with the chip lead, Gierse was sent home with fifth-place prize money. After defending his big blind with , he connected with top pair on the flop and moved all-in over the top of a continuation bet. Laskowitz had the goods with and made the call to put Gierse at risk. The turn and river weren't what he needed to see and he was forced to settle for a fifth-place finish.

Ausmus comes up short

Ausmus' last-gasp run at the Purple Jacket came to an end in a blind versus blind clash with Winter.

In the face of a raise, Ausmus opted to commit the majority of his stack with from the big blind. Winter came back over the top for the rest with his and the cards hit their backs.

The flop was clean for Ausmus, but the turn and river were all Winter and his attempted heist of the Purple Jacket was officially foiled.

With that, Mateos' series win was secured.

Jeremy Ausmus' win in Event #7 of the Poker Masters saw him enter the final table of the series closer with a shot at the title – but he couldn't pull it off.

Yaroshevskyy's exit came in a blind versus blind clash against Winter as well. After limping in from the small blind with , the Ukrainian called Winter's ensuing raise.

The was an action flop as Yaroshevskyy connected with bottom two pair, but was drawing slim against Winter's . More chips went in as Winter sought value and the turn was a total brick. The Floridian sized up his bet on the turn and Yaroshevskyy opted to move all-in over the top – only to see the bad news as Winter quickly called and showed him the goods.

Winter took a commanding chip lead into heads-up play, but Laskowitz came ready to battle and the two traded blows for a little more than an hour.

The final hand saw Winter connect with bottom two pair against Laskowitz's top pair in a limped pot.

After check-raising the flop, Winter over-bet jammed the turn and Laskowitz called it off, drawing slim but not dead. The river offered no help and Winter added a 9th PGT title to his tour resume.
