By the end of Day 1, Mateos was at the top of the chip counts with seven players left. It was a stacked finale, with Hall of Famer Nick Schulman in second, and Jeremy Becker and Martin Zamani close behind.
Mateos dominates final table
Mateos extended his lead on the very first hand of the final table, when he flopped two pair against Becker's top pair. The Spaniard moved all-in on the river and Becker found the fold.
Mateos didn't release his grip on the chip lead, eliminating Keith Lehr in sixth after Lehr had sent Matthew Wantman to the rail in seventh.
The scalps were shared around – Becker took out Zamani, while Schulman eliminated Robert French – but with three players left, Mateos had extended his chip lead and had a stack of 6.1 million, more than Schulman and Becker combined. It took less than 30 minutes for Mateos to clinch the title.
