WSOP Online: David Peters wins 'Lucky 7's' high roller for third career bracelet

Elite poker pro David Peters has claimed WSOP bracelet gold for the third time. Peters, playing as "dpeters17", came from behind during heads-up play to take down Event #25 of the 2021 WSOP Online series, Event #25: $7,777 NLH Lucky 7's High Roller.

Peters' latest win adds to one of the most impressive resumes in all of poker. The 34-year-old Ohio native, who now calls Las Vegas home, collected $283,940 for the win. According to the HendonMob database, this latest score moves Peters over the $35 million mark in recorded tournament earnings.

The bracelet win was far from a walkover, as Peters had to overcome a roughly 3:2 deficit in chips to an as-yet-unidentified player, "CherryHillPD". CherryHillPD, who likely played online from New Jersey, collected $175,443 for his runner-up finish.

Peters emerged from tight three-way battle

Peters' win came after a tight three-way battle also involving another prior bracelet winner, Ryan Laplante, who busted in bad-beat fashion, getting his stack in with pocket kings against Peters' J-9 but losing the hand and most of his chips. CherryHillPD the claimed the rest of Laplante's chips in a knockout hand. Laplante earned $120,638 for the deep run.

The knockout left CherryHillPD with the early heads-up edge, but Peters doubled through just a few hands later to take a commanding lead. Peters then whittled down CherryHillPD's stack until the other player was forced to move all in over a Peters limp. CherryHillPD had a modest Q-2 and the steal attempt went awry, as Peters had set a trap with pocket tens. CherryHillPD found a deuce on the flop but no other help arrived, and the title and bracelet was Peters'.

This high-roller event featured a loaded final table that included four prior bracelet winners. Besides Peters and Laplante, Brandon Adams finished fifth and Galen Hall took seventh.

Three different flavors of WSOP gold for Peters

The latest bracelet win also gives Peters an interesting trifecta of WSOP titles. He won his first bracelet in a live, deep-field $1,500 NLH event at the 2016 WSOP in Las Vegas. His second bracelet win came in 2020, in the international portion of last year's online schedule, which was held on GGPoker. The country Peters had traveled to for the event — a high-profile $10K heads-up championship — was never disclosed.

This latest victory was again a domestic win, and it came against elite competition. Dozens of prior bracelet winners were part of the field. Those included at least four players with three or more bracelet triumphs — Daniel Negreanu, Kristen Bicknell, Scott Seiver, and Nick Schulman — a category Peters now joins.

Peters has also cashed for a million dollars or more in ten different events, due to several strong showings in "super high roller" events in recent years. This win doesn't even rank in his top 30 all-time cashes in money terms, though the prestige involved also carries value.
