Poker Twitter stands alone as one of the most captivating niches in the world of social media. Virtually all of poker’s best news, feuds, and ongoing storylines flow through Twitter.
This week's Best of Poker Twitter roundup features Daniel Negreanu’s lack of respect for Phil Hellmuth’s heads-up game. An éclair the size of a man’s size-11 shoe and a return to mainstream television for one of poker’s biggest tournaments also make the cut in this edition of Tweets of the Week:
Phil Hellmuth’s always-active Twitter account stands as the top outlet for the latest news on his upcoming heads-up match against Daniel Negreanu. Fresh off a $1.2 million loss to Doug Polk in the High Stakes Feud challenge, Negreanu is set to take a seat as Hellmuth’s next opponent in the PokerGOHigh Stakes Duel series.
“Man! @RealKidPoker says I’m 2.5-to-1 underdog in our heads up match in “High Stakes Duel,” on @PokerGo App! Not sure I’ve ever been such a big underdog before, ouchie!!,” tweeted Hellmuth.
Hellmuth sits as the defending champion on High Stakes Duel after defeating Antonio Esfandiari in three straight matches. Per the rules of the show, Hellmuth’s next match plays as a heads-up sit-and-go with $800,000 on the line.
Hold’em Media founder finds size-11 éclair in Houston
Hold’em Media owner Dan Ross experienced quite the journey in his effort to cover the Prime Signature live tournament series at Houston’s Prime Social. A record-breaking freeze throughout the middle portion of the U.S. three the entire state of Texas into chaos, with the winter system shutting down power and travel through most of the state.
Ross did find a silver lining on the trip, however, in the form of a Kenny & Ziggy’s donut:
"OK, this is nuts, I had to get it simply due to the fact it is same size as my Size-11 Chucks,” Ross tweeted Tuesday. “A @KENNYANDZIGGYS eclair Sharing w/4 other ppl.”
Perhaps that tweet will inspire Kenny & Ziggy’s to fashion an éclair that actually looks like a size-11 Converse Chuck Taylor.
PokerStars Players Championship comes to FS1
It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen mainstream television coverage of international PokerStars live events. The world’s largest online poker operator also runs some of the most prestigious live events around the globe.
U.S. viewers have to take to YouTube and other internet channels to see tournaments like the EPT Barcelona or PokerStars Players Championship. That changes this weekend, however:
“Hey, @Stapes - we’re back on TV in the USA! The #PSPC starts airing on @FS1 tonight. New episodes every Friday at 11 pm ET. Enjoy, American poker fans...,” tweeted PokerStars host James Hartigan on Friday.
Hartigan tagged longtime broadcast partner Joe Stapleton in the tweet, and U.S. viewers get the chance to hear the unmistakable PokerStars duo every Friday night on FS1.
Does a U.S. mainstream television broadcast of the PSPC point to more televised poker coming to major U.S. outlets? We can certainly hope so.
