Americas Cardroom has announced that it will be partnering with the poker room at the Enjoy Punta Del Este just outside the Uruguayan city of Maldonado. The sponsorship deal is set to include live events and travel packages, winnable on the ACR platform. The initial run of this deal will be two years, but if it goes well, one imagines there will be the option for pick up of a few more seasons.
The Enjoy Punta Del Este is an integrated resort. It hosts South America's largest casino and is a short taxi ride from a ton of prime tourist spots in Uruguay.
Bob Garcia, writing on ACR's blog, said, "We have some huge news that live poker fans will definitely enjoy. Americas Cardroom is now the official sponsor of Enjoy Punta del Este in Uruguay. We’re proud to be associated with this high-end property, which is home to the largest casino in Latin America!"
All the ACR-sponsored live events at the Enjoy will have corresponding satellites on the online platform. In these, players will be able to win travel packages while playing on ACR. Though the specifics of these packages are still to be confirmed, the ACR presser reports that the event will probably contain the expected — i.e. "airfare, hotel accommodations, and spending money."
The Twitter account for ACR wrote, "We’re now the official sponsor of the Punta del Este poker room in Uruguay. We're excited to bring you legendary land-based events with huge prize pools. Of course, you'll be able to win your prize package at #ACR."
New Latin wave
ACR isn't just North Americas Cardroom, it has also held live events like the Punta Cana Poker Classic, which took place in the Dominican Republic. ACR has also sponsored domestic locations with its The Cage Live events in Costa Rica.
However, for the last 18 months, these live events have been on indefinite hold while COVID rages. The events at Enjoy are projected to be ACR's first foray back into live events since the novel coronavirus went international. Instead, the site has been focusing on its successful Venom series and WSOP promotion.
Uruguay is not a big stop on the poker circuit as yet.
However, Brazil — Uruguay's neighbor on one side — is increasingly doing to poker in the 21st century what it did to soccer in the 20th. And its neighbor on the other, Argentina, has always hosted a large immigrant community of European and U.S. poker players. Now Uruguay has a good shot at getting a series with some real traction, bolstering the Southern Hemisphere's growing poker community.
There must be something in the water along the Tropic of Capricorn.
