After falling short of the final table in the $40K Mystery Bounty at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series festival in Jeju, South Korea, Phil Ivey returned to the nosebleed-stakes action on Friday in the $50K NLH 8-Handed.
Ivey fared better in this one, reaching the final table of nine to lock up a minimum of $155,000 for his efforts.
When play began at the final table, Belarusian Alex Boika was in command of the chip lead, with runner-up finisher Nick Petrangelo and the eventual champion Pedro Padilha not far behind.
Ivey, meanwhile, was in the middle of the pack to start proceedings. Sasaki Yoko was the first player eliminated from contention when she committed the last of her chips with pocket nines – only to run into the pocket tens of Petrangelo. Eelis Parssinen followed suit soon after, his ace-high holding unable to run down the pocket queens of Yang Wang.
With two pay ladders secured and short stacks all around, the remaining players were all hoping to outlast one another and playing cautiously as a result.
Ivey had just over 10 big blinds to work with when he looked down at
in the cutoff while facing a raise from Petrangelo in the hijack.
Without much hesitation, he moved all-in and awaited his fate. Petrangelo had
and quickly called once the action folded back around to him.
The

flop left Ivey drawing to a single out and the
turn confirmed his elimination.
Petrangelo and Padilha chop it up
When play reached the heads-up stage, Padilha held a slight chip lead over Petrangelo, but both players were short on big blinds.
With that in mind, they agreed to an ICM deal to chop up the remaining prize money – with Padilha walking away holding the lion's share due to his chip lead.
Nick Petrangelo finished runner-up in the $50K NLH 8-Handed – so close to a second Triton title.
After battling back and forth for a few hands, Petrangelo sent the rest of his short stack into the middle with
and Padilha called with
.
While Petrangelo had the best of it through the flop, the
turn was a disaster for him as Padilha improved to a better pair.
The river bricked out and the Brazilian was left to hoist his first-ever Triton Poker Super High Roller Series trophy.
