Now, only a little more than a month removed from that life-changing experience, he's back in the mix at the record-breaking WSOP Circuit Main Event at Texas Card House Social Austin.
With only 18 players remaining, Jumalon leads the pack in the chip counts.
The last time he held a chip lead going into the final frames of play, he walked away with $10,000,000. The first-place prize in this one isn't quite on the same level, but there's a chance at poker history on the line as well. For Jumalon, the prestige of the victory likely outweighs the financial gain – although $433,670 is still nothing to sneeze at.
Will Jumalon etch his name into the annals of poker history for the second time in as many months?
There's only one way to find out – and you can watch along starting at 3pm ET.
PokerOrg's Mike Patrick caught up with Jumalon down in Austin, Texas prior to Day 2 play to hear about his newfound poker fame, how he's settling into the ambassadorial role, and where he's headed next.
How has your life changed in these past few months?
It hasn't changed as much as people would think. I'm a very level individual. I bought a used Corvette, a 2023 LT3 Stingray and some new clothes, but most of it went into investments. Now I get to come do what I love with no stress. And I feel like I'm playing a lot better because there's no pressure.
How much fun have you had playing poker since your Main Event win?
This is my first time playing – like, actually playing – since the Main Event. It's been quite interesting, an interesting dynamic, dealing with people coming up to me, but I love it and I'm very grateful for it. It's been a blast because I get to friendly-needle people and they get to send it back. It's all fun and games – last night on the stone bubble I was all-in for my tournament life and I was like, 'Guys, I really need this min-cash. You better not bust me.'
It's been a lot of fun.
Have you noticed players recognizing you and playing differently against you?
Absolutely. There's certain stuff that I've had to adapt to and change how I play against. I think it benefits me because they're adjusting to something that they think is going on and I've already readjusted.
How are you enjoying the ambassador role as a Main Event champion?
It's such a blessing. This game has given me so much and to be able to give a little bit back means a lot.
Where else can we see you popping up?
I've got WSOPC Calgary planned for next week, so I'll be in Canada. Greg Mueller, if you're out there, let's chop it up. Rami [Hammoud], let's do something.
